MakeInspires Inc ("MakeInspires", "we", "us") provides the MakeInspires Instructor application (the "app") and the MakeInspires Instructor staff portal, a web-based version accessed through the Google Chrome browser and other web browsers (the "portal"), to individuals engaged by MakeInspires as independent contractor instructors and to members of its full-time staff, who are employees. Accounts are created by MakeInspires, and neither the app nor the portal offers registration. This policy describes the personal information collected through the app and the portal, the purposes for which it is used, and the parties to whom it is disclosed. References to "the app" include the portal unless stated otherwise.
Account and profile information: name, email address, mobile telephone number, date of birth, profile photograph, biography, role, service regions, and weekday availability.
Work records: assigned classes and events, check-in and check-out records, headcounts, class notes, photographs of the class and of the sign-in sheet, event reports, and substitution requests.
Payment information: hours you report, payment statements, and payment requests. Payroll and direct deposit are processed by ADP. If you elect direct deposit, your bank routing and account numbers are provided to ADP for that purpose.
Engagement records: documents held by MakeInspires on your behalf, and documents you upload, which may include identification, working papers, and tax forms (Form W-9 for contractor instructors). Instructors aged 18 or over complete a background check, which is conducted by myHRScreens; MakeInspires receives the result.
Authentication information: a six-digit code sent to your email address or mobile telephone number. The app does not use passwords.
Device information: if you allow notifications, a push notification token issued by Apple or Google for your device, used only to deliver notifications to you.
The app collects approximate location at the time you check in to a class. Location is not collected at any other time, in the background, or while the app is closed.
The app requests approximate location only and does not request precise location. The value is rounded on the device before it is stored or transmitted, and indicates a general area rather than a street address or a position within a building.
Location is used to confirm attendance at the site of a class where a check-in is reviewed. It is not used to assess punctuality or performance, and no distance calculation is performed.
Providing location is optional. A check-in is recorded and compensated identically whether or not a location accompanies it. Access may be granted or withdrawn at any time in device settings. Each check-in indicates whether a location was recorded.
The portal uses the same accounts, sign-in codes, and records as the app, and the information described in this policy is collected and used in the same way. The following differences apply to the portal:
The app contains no analytics, crash reporting, advertising, or attribution software, and no third-party tracking code. It does not track users across other applications or websites, collect location in the background, or generate advertising identifiers. Notification permission is requested so that the app can notify you about your work; you may decline or withdraw it in device settings. The camera is accessed only when you elect to take a photograph.
Information is used to authenticate you, schedule your assignments, calculate and remit payments, maintain engagement, payment, and tax documentation, and communicate with you regarding your work. Date of birth is additionally used to determine whether working papers or a background check is required, to determine eligibility for classes subject to a minimum age, and to recognize your birthday.
MakeInspires does not sell personal information and does not share it for advertising purposes.

MakeInspires may also disclose information where required by law or legal process.
Lesson plans and resource links open documents hosted by third parties, generally Google Docs. Opening such a link constitutes a visit to the site concerned, and this policy does not apply to it.
Authentication tokens are stored in the iOS Keychain or the Android Keystore. A copy of your schedule is retained so that the app functions without network connectivity. The Keychain and Keystore details in this section apply to the app. Information stored by the portal in your browser is described in "The web portal" above.
A check-in recorded without connectivity is stored on the device and transmitted when connectivity returns, and remains on the device until delivered. Deleting the app removes all locally stored data, including any check-in not yet transmitted. Deleting the app does not delete information held by MakeInspires.
Because your information forms part of your contractor agreement or employment records and your payment and tax records, which we are required or need to keep for legal, tax, and administrative purposes, MakeInspires does not delete it when your engagement ends. Contracts, payment records, and tax documents are retained for at least six years after your engagement ends. Other information, such as check-in records, check-in photographs, and location values, forms part of the record of the work you performed and is retained for the same period.
Location access may be granted or withdrawn in device settings. Camera and notification access are optional. Availability, regions, biography, and profile photograph may be amended in the app. To be excluded from birthday recognition, contact education@makeinspires.com.
To request a copy of the information held about you or a correction, contact support@makeinspires.com. No charge applies, and the app is not required in order to submit a request. Because your information forms part of your contractor agreement or employment records and your payment and tax records, MakeInspires generally does not delete it on request, except where the law requires us to. If you believe information is inaccurate, we will correct it.
Information transmitted by the app and the portal is encrypted in transit. Authentication tokens are held in secure device storage, sessions expire, and requests are authorized against your account. No method of transmission or storage is entirely secure.
The app and the portal are provided to instructors and staff. They are not directed to children and may not be used by any person under 16. Instructors aged 16 or 17 are supported for the purpose of working papers, and a parent or guardian may submit any request described above on their behalf, other than deletion, which is addressed under Retention.
Class screens display information concerning children enrolled in a class, including photographs taken at check-out. For makerspace classes, that information is provided by families when they register through Sawyer; for in-school programs, it is provided by the partner school under its agreement with MakeInspires. It is available only to the instructor assigned to the session.
This policy may be updated from time to time. The date above will be revised accordingly, and material changes will be communicated directly.
